My Axis is Making an Odd Noise

If you've been experiencing some issues with your Axis, please review this process as it may fix your issue.

This is an easy fix that just requires a bit of cleaning and addition of lithium grease, which can be purchased at any local hardware store.

If you feel like getting some in a more modern fashion, here is a link to some on Amazon: Amazon Link to White All Purpose Lithium Grease

The reason behind the grinding noise is due to metal on metal grinding caused by the ablated material from everyday laser ablation. This will stick and build up on you axis lead screw and cause those horrible noises, like one of the monsters from Stranger Things.

  1. Take a paper towel and some Denatured or Isopropyl alcohol and give each of the lead screws a good cleaning.
  2. Home each axis to the home position
  3. Add the Lithium Grease across the entire length of the lead screw
  4. Move the axis to the opposing end and watch the axis distribute the lithium grease 360 degrees across the entire screw.
